Not that I am in a position to start a new locomotive (I have two diesels in the works) but I would be interested in the techniques you are using to build yours. Come and visit my blog, and perhaps I can trade you some information in kind. Also I am not sure if this will help you as you are making a steam engine, but I have been following the tutorials that SMMDigital wrote. I have learned a lot about 3DC just from studying his work. His site is http://www.smmdigital.net/ and you will find it third section down on the right column. We have a thread going on at RWA on this as well. http://railworksamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=47495#p47495
Thanks for the heads-up. I'll open an account over there at RWA and join in the thread. I'm not very good at explaining techniques, and there are so many little tricks I've learnt. It just takes a lot of patience and a lot of care, as in being very careful, like locking the axis when selecting points, to avoid unknowingly shifting them by a smidgeon and messing up the accuracy of a subsequent extrude, or selecting points in the perspective view but making sure to drag them in a concurrent othographic view, so they get dragged in the correct direction ... things like that.I'll have a look at the tutorial. I'm sure I'll find some new tricks in there.
